This is the most important question of your surgical journey and it’s changed dramatically in the last five years. There’s a simple checklist to use when considering plastic surgery. First, make sure your surgeon is a surgeon. Look for the letters FRACS Plas. Second, your surgeon should be a member of at least one of the peak societies for plastic surgery in Australia. That is the Australasian Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons, ASAPS or the Australian Society of Plastic Surgeons, ASPS. Three, look at their before and after photos. Four, follow them on social media. See what their previous patients are saying about them. Five, engage with their previous patients. This is now really easy via social media. Either ask public questions or direct message patients. Our patients love to speak to prospective patients, and finally check out their reviews on Google. This is a valuable resource, but be careful 100% five star reviews often means their reviews are either curated or self-created. Also, look for recency, as well as reviews about the procedure you’re actually interested in.
