The closer you can get to your ideal weight before a tummy tuck, the better. There are three reasons for making this recommendation. Firstly, you’re going to get a better result. Secondly, we’ll be able to pull the skin tighter and make the tummy muscles also tighter. And lastly, and most importantly, safety. This particularly applies to women who have a body mass index above 30, who have a higher risk for surgical and anesthetic complications.

That being said, your weight loss doesn’t need to be extreme to benefit from a tummy tuck. Once you’re at a comfortable and stable weight, then most likely you’re ready for surgery. Of course, this will be part of our assessment during your consultation. If we feel you’ll get a better result by losing some more weight, then we’ll discuss that with you at this stage.
