Liposuction

Liposuction is often used to contour the body and enhance your overall results, either in conjunction with other surgeries or as a solo operation.

Is liposuction right for me?

Liposuction removes excess fat from specific areas of the body, such as the stomach, hips, thighs, and arms, using a thin tube called a cannula. This is inserted through a small incision in the skin and suctions out the extra fat.

Liposuction can be used to contour the body and remove small amounts of fat, either to enhance the results of other surgeries or as a solo procedure. At Re., we pride ourselves on not performing large amounts of liposuction as it is not a weight loss procedure and can be incredibly dangerous if treated as such.

If you’re unsure whether liposuction is right for you, check out our podcast Keeping It Re.al where we go into greater detail on when and how liposuction works best.

A look into the liposuction journey

1 hour

A private consultation with your surgeon

Your initial consultation will take about an hour and will be with your surgeon. This gives you and your surgeon the time to discuss what’s involved in a liposuction procedure and help you make the right decision for you, based on your body type, your lifestyle and your expectations.

2-3 months

Your first appointment

Our surgeons’ wait lists are constantly changing but prepare for a 2-3 month wait to have your first consultation. This is a good thing! If a surgeon can see you straight away ask yourself why they aren’t busy operating or in high demand. These consultations last around an hour with your surgeon taking your pre-surgery photos, explaining what’s involved in an operation and understanding your desired outcomes. You’ll also have an in-depth, personal quote with our surgical co-ordinator that is valid for 3 months.

2-3 months

Your surgery date

Once you’ve paid your deposit for your surgery, wait times will fluctuate depending on time of the year and your procedure, but allow for a 2 – 3 month wait time.

1-2 weeks

Book in and prepare for surgery

When you’re ready, we’ll book your procedure. We know this is an exciting transformation, so we promise to be there every step of the way. From pre-surgery consults, check-ins with your surgeon all the way to post-op laser and LED appointments with our dermal therapist.

1 day

Day of procedure

This will vary depending on which part of your body is having liposuction and whether it’s a combined procedure or solo. If it’s a combined surgery, you’ll stay in hospital however many nights the biggest surgery requires (i.e breast reduction one night, lower body lift two nights).

If it’s a solo operation, it’s just a day surgery so no overnight stay.

1-2 weeks

The early days

The first 48-72 hours are mildly uncomfortable but will be well controlled with pain medication. It is okay to shower and get your dressings wet and you can sleep in any position that’s comfortable. During this period, you’ll have your complimentary LED scar management treatment to promote healing.

By week two, you can begin to ease back into light physical activities. Most patients are able to comfortably start driving.

6-8 weeks

Your recovery journey

You would be back to your normal daily routine and enjoying your new shape. Normal post-operative bruising and swelling should be gone, and your scars will begin to fade and diminish. You are able to fully resume normal exercise. At the end of this period you will have your post-operative complimentary laser scar treatment.

Frequently asked questions

all about Liposuction

If performed correctly, no. Saggy skin is generally a result of poor patient selection i.e someone with poor quality skin or excess liposuction is required for ideal results. In these cases, a skin tightening procedure, such as a tummy tuck, is more appropriate.

Liposuction is not a weight loss surgery and we pride ourselves on only liposucking small amounts for body contouring. Beware any practises promising to use liposuction as a weight loss tool.

Liposuction surgery should be a relatively pain-free experience. At Re., we perform all liposuction at an accredited hospital with a qualified anaesthetist and infiltrate the area with local anaesthetic so you shouldn’t feel a thing. You will most likely be a bit tender for a few days after surgery but should be back to normal activities after a couple of weeks.
Technically, the fat cells removed with liposuction will not return so, as long as you maintain your weight, results should be long lasting. However, it’s natural for skin to lose some firmness with ageing and if you gain weight after liposuction, your fat distribution may change.
Scarring from liposuction alone will be minimal, a small line about the size of a freckle. In most cases, a scar this size will fade slowly over the next six months and will be largely unnoticeable.

Liposuction is billed on an hourly basis of $5,500 per hour. You’ll receive a more detailed quote at your consult after the surgeon has ascertained exactly what you’ll need.
