This is a very common question we get asked, the vast majority of patients have the idea that implants last for 10 years. This is a bit of an old wives tale, with the current generation of implants lasting much longer than that. Unless there’s a problem with your implant, with the shape or position, there’s no need to have the implant removed. Implant failure with a rupture is now extraordinarily rare. In fact, I’ve never actually seen a ruptured implant in any of my patients. Breast implants are not like getting your car serviced, where you need to book in every x number of kilometers to have them serviced or changed. Basically, if your implants are fine, then there’s nothing that needs to be done.
