This is a really good question because the indications for these operations are really quite different, so it’s not an either or situation. An abdominoplasty is indicated when there’s excess skin and or laxity of the abdominal wall, whereas liposuction is indicated for isolated areas of subcutaneous fat. It is, however, quite common that we use liposuction as part of an abdominoplasty, mainly for contouring purposes.
